Certain species and sub-species of kelp have higher concentrations of vitamins and minerals, and are more valuable than other types.
For example, MegakelpTM's Laminaria Kelp uses the Laminaria species, exactly the same type linked to the low rate of certain cancer types in Japan. In Hawaii, seaweed is also a common part of the diet, but that country does not have a low rate of certain cancer types. This is because a different species of kelp growing in warmer waters is eaten.
